Recap Review: The Slutty Pumpkin

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: 1.06 “The Slutty Pumpkin”

Halloween wouldn’t be complete without crazy costumes, bad parties, and a mystery. This series’ mystery: The Slutty Pumpkin.

Ok, so maybe it wasn’t the mystery of the series (unless the Slutty Pumpkin ends up being the mother), but it’s certainly a great Halloween episode–heck, it even made it on our list of favorite Halloween episodes in this week’s open thread!

But really, this episode makes me miss HIMYM of yore. We have the nerdiness of the Marshall/Lily couple, the anti-commimental Robin, and Ted at his most desperate. Honestly, if I was the Slutty Pumpkin, I might just get a little creeped out that this guy has been trying to find me for four years. But hey, I think we were all supposed to see how weird and desperate Ted’s search was going to be.

But that’s why we had Barney to make us laugh!

First, love Barney’s entrance a la Top Gun. The music was great–as was the “flight suit up.” Second, three (well, four, really) costumes with their own pickup lines? Love it. Most of all, love the devil/angel moment with Ted deciding whether to pee over the roof.

What else? How about when Ted tries to tell the story of the Slutty Pumpkin and the group keeps jumping in with parts, overlapping because the story’s been told so many times. Love it. Man, this episode–and season 1 entirely–reminds me how much I enjoy this gang.

Also, Lily and Marshall’s picture using depth perception to be a parrot on the “gay pirate’s” shoulder? Classic. And fun. Love it.

Sure, the only downer of the episode was really Robin’s storyline, but knowing Robin, it was completely appropriate. I mean, they was so great he dressed up as Hansel! He was perfectly nice. Poor guy.

Anyway, a fun episode and great for a Halloween laugh. I’d recommend. But hurry. Watch by tomorrow! After all, that is the big day!
