VAMPIRE DIARIES: 2.05 “Kill or Be Killed”
Okay. Where to begin? I feel like a lot happened in this episode. First off, Stefan calls a truce with Mason, apologizing for his brother’s behavior. All seems to be well afterwards until Mason informs Liz Forbes that Stefan and Damon are vampires. “But he is my friend!” was Liz’s reaction, which was mildly amusing. We don’t find out until later, but in order to see if Mason is telling the truth, they spike the lemonade with vervain at yet another town festival/activity/fundraiser (how many times can they celebrate Founder’s Day stuff?). Damon drinks it and Liz sees him getting sick from it.
Meanwhile, Jeremy and Tyler bond over drinks at Tyler’s house with some girls. After discovering Jeremy’s sketchbook of werewolves, Jeremy admits to Tyler that he knows about his family. And Tyler informs Jeremy that he isn’t a werewolf. He will only become one if someone dies at his hands…and there is a close call with this happening at his house, but the girl turns out to be fine after falling down a flight of stairs. But, it does make Tyler give Mason the moonstone that Mason has been looking for because Tyler doesn’t want anything to do with werewolves now.
Later, Damon recovers from the vervain, but Mason lures him and Stefan into the woods where they get shot by Liz and company. It looks like they have them trapped until Caroline and Elena show up and Elena convinces Caroline to rescue them. She does, but it also means that her mother discovers what she really is. They bring Liz back to the Salvatore residents to wait out the vervain leaving her blood, so they can compel her to forget what happened. But, unfortunately, Caroline overhears her mother saying that she no longer has a daughter leaving Caroline very distraught. She’s now lost Matt and her mother.
At the very end of the episode, Caroline confesses to Elena that Katherine was making her break up Elena and Stefan because she threatened to kill Matt. And Stefan decides to start drinking human blood again to make himself stronger. Although upset with this at first, Elena decides it is for the best and has him drink her blood. And then they make out…
Then the show ends with Mason meeting up with Katherine and giving her the moonstone!! They’ve been conspiring together this whole time.
So what is this moonstone for? And is Katherine just using Mason? I would assume yes since that seems to be her forte. And I don’t think Mason will be living much longer now that he tried to have Stefan and Damon killed. And how will Stefan do drinking human blood? Hopefully he can control himself better this time. I’m looking forward to seeing this play out. And poor Caroline. She didn’t have a good relationship with her mother before and it’s not looking too hopeful now. Maybe she and Matt will get back together relatively soon. I’d like to see that happen.
