HIMYM: Who Is Barney’s Bride?

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: 2.23-2.24 “The Magician’s Code, Parts 1 and 2″

Who is Barney going to marry?

Well, to get to that, we’ll have to start at the beginning. And I can almost hear Ted’s voiceover in my head, just as I write that.

Let’s start with Lily and Marshall’s brand-new baby. I can’t say the episode entirely thrilled me. The flashbacks to stories were ok. Marshall’s drunkenness was overdone. And Barney, well, he was Barney at his most moderate.

Now, I will say that I was entertained my Robin and Ted, while they were trying to distract Lily. (By the way, if you’re curious, Ted’s labor announcement is, in fact, online.) And the moment the team got into the delivery room, I couldn’t turn away. Lily and her father were great, especially with Ted’s lead in: “Sometimes you get exactly what you ask for. Other times, you get Lily’s dad.”

And ultimately, the birth was sweet, with little Marvin being born. If you didn’t guess they would name him after Marshall’s dad, well, where have you been for the last year and a half? Of course, that would happen. But the middle name — Waitforit — well, that was great. That poor kid’s going to have a tough time growing up, but for this series, it was perfect.

Now to the meat of the hourlong episode.

We did find out who Barney’s marrying. Or at least who the bride is. Why do I write it in that way? Well, Ted introduced the wedding in a pretty negative way, calling it “horrible” if I recall. Now, you could argue that he was talking about Victoria’s wedding day. After all, she did leave her fiance at the altar and run away with Ted (I have no idea how that’s going to turn out, but I doubt well). But then again, it would be a lot more interesting (and let’s face it, likely) if he were referencing Barney’s special day.

But we haven’t gotten there yet. It looks like we have one fiance to get through first. Honestly, I loved the way that Barney proposed — it was so him — and it was frankly entertaining.

But Quinn wasn’t the woman in that wedding dress. It was Robin. Ted and Marshall said there were a lot of twists and turns to get them there, but if you were surprised it was Robin in that dress, well, you haven’t been watching the series. It was always my suspicion that it was going to be Robin (and according to Craig Thomas, it’s been planned for a while). Of course, Norah and Quinn distracted us, but would any of us feel contented if it were anyone other than Robin?

So now we know. What we don’t know is how we get there. Or whether that horrible wedding is going to be Barney’s. And what Robin wants to tell Ted when he goes into that bridal room.

So frankly, we don’t know what’s next. We may not know who the mother is yet, but did this make you want to at least find out more about everyone else?
