ARMY WIVES: 3.05 “Disengagement”

It was a bit of a sad episode of Army Wives this time around. And you could actually feel the sadness because Trevor’s annoying little whines weren’t actually in the episode. Which meant that I really enjoyed this episode.

The saddest part of all was, of course, Denise and Frank, who accomplished the world’s fastest divorce in history. Seriously, can mediators really work that fast? Anyway, not only do we see the final signatures on the page, but we hear Denise’s sad, defeated voice in negotiations and chats with lawyers. Even her phone call with Frank was absolutely heartbreaking.

And didn’t you, too, think someone wouldn’t sign the papers? I didn’t think it’d go out that way.

But you know, I think that this really will bring a reunite. Despite Denise’s option to move to Denver and become a traveling nurse, I really see some sort of reunite happening. Perhaps just realizing the love each other with a big wedding in the end.

Or, there’s always Jeremy. Think something will happen to Jeremy. That scene last week with the dog was cute, but what was its purpose? I tend to think that if you’re showing someone in the field, something should happen. And I don’t know if that will be good for Jeremy. Plus, Frank just survived the blast a few weeks ago. I think Jeremy might have something coming.

Which sucks. I like Jeremy. I don’t like Frank, but I want Denise happy, so we’ll see what happens.

Oh, what’d we think about the reunite between Denise and her friends? Man, I love Roland. Basically whacking all of those ladies into shape. It seemed a little forced, but at least it happened. I missed Denise’s interactions with her friends.

Meanwhile, Roxy was reopening The Hump Bar with her newest addition. This transformation into the new bar seemed to take no time at all, and I really was less than interested in this storyline. I was much more interested in Pamela and Chase, though I thought that her conflicts with Chase would be more than just rearranging furniture in the living room. (Plus, everyone knows, you just wait until he leaves and then change it up. He’s gone so long, you can change it back when he returns. It’s called sneaky compromise.)

Then there was Roland and Joan. And you’d think that I’d have some sort of opinion on this. But I don’t. I was a little skeptical of the church they went with–not calling it a baptism seemed a little off to me. But I guess for the non-religious Joan, it works. And forming the “ceremony” to her needs works, so I’ll see how it plays out before deciding yes or no. But her explanation, that she wants someone looking out for her–a community–that was nice. And it’s good to hear someone actually realistically talking about the dangers of being deployed.

It was a solid episode that provided good buildup for next week. I’m glad the Denise storyline is moving. Now, if we could only get Emmalin’s storyline to move. Oh, and for Claudia Joy to stop wearing side ponytails. It’s making all the teenagers and 20-somethings look bad.
