BONES: 4.09 “The Passenger in the Oven”

I enjoyed last night’s episode. I’m not saying it was the best one ever, but it was interesting to watch and there were some good chuckles in it.

I certainly found some things that were unnecessary–way too many red herrings and possible suspects (almost like the writers thought that since it might be too obvious by limiting the murderer to the confines of a plane, they decided to add way too many diversions to the real killer). I hated that we had to intermix the corruption of the plane staff with the murder itself: DUIs, stolen credit cards, lighters on flight. But I guess they had to fill up the hour somehow.

The band-aid, though, I felt was a good diversion. An actually sound one. A lead they had to follow.

Anyway, beyond that, I just loved the interpersonal stuff. I’m so glad that Hodgins and Angela finally showed some awkwardness post-breakup. Not that I like this Angela storyline right now (why does EVERY show now need to incorporate a lesbian storyline? I’m not opposed to it, but when you see it everywhere, it gets old!). She’s clearly on the rebound and needy by asking her friend/ex/girlfriend to move in with her when it’s usually not in her realm of thought. Anyway, I kinda wish we’d stop focusing on this. Granted, I’m a shipper, so maybe I just want to see Hodgins happy again.

I adored seeing everyone in their day clothes. Especially the jokes that bounced off Sweets’ shorts. That was fantastic. I felt like we were reliving his time on Freaks and Geeks (ok, I don’t remember his wardrobe, but it seems like something he would have worn).

And as always, I’m a fan of the Booth/Bones camaraderie. This was definitely and episode for those of you who really want to see them together. Teasing, flirtation, desperation (Booth wanting to clarify why Bones’ favorite time was not with him was great). I also enjoyed seeing them dig around the plane for tools they could use and having such happy fans oblige.

My one thought, though, is this: Would no one have SMELT the cooking body for 6.5 hours? I mean, I smell my mac and cheese when I cook it on high at home, and that doesn’t even have raw meet in it.

Anyway, it was decent. More for laughs than for plot, but it’s just another Wednesday on the case!
