ONE TREE HILL: 6.09 “Sympathy for the Devil”

I think we all know Peyton did a bad thing by keeping her mouth shut. She didn’t know about Julian doing the movie until after the fact, but who waits a month? Hasn’t she heard the whole ripping the Band-aid off metaphor? Then, when you’re FOUND OUT, and your boyfriend asks if you’ve dated, why would your first words be, “We were in love”? How will that make him feel better?

So Peyton made a big boo-boo, and I can definitely see some strain entering Lucas and Peyton’s relationship. I don’t think they’ll last too long–we’ve been through too many storylines with the Peyton/Lucas relationship drama, so I really think we might only have a brief moment of tension. Maybe a full episode. Maybe just a few minutes.

Meanwhile, we see that Hayley has completely lost it. After Sam took her son to an illegal party in the middle of the night, why would she let her babysit him while she went to the office? Ok, well, they’re in school; what could she really get up to? But then, after we find out that Sam taught him to cheat kids out of money, why would she then be still ok with Sam? Her “lecture” of sorts had a very cheerful vibe, and I just think any other mother would finally just throw her hands in the air and say, “Sam’s a bad influence.”

Then there’s Nathan. Ok, maybe I latched on to the cheesy, but I just really feel that they played the moment of his flying through the glass window fantastically. Perhaps because it looked so similar to the moment that started his life in a wheelchair: flying through a glass window by someone else’s thrust, only to find a shard of glass in his back. As the slow-mo progressed (with the horrifying thought that Jamie’s in the lead and might find the shard in his father’s back first), my heart sped up. I actually think that even though it was a cheesy element, it was handled very well. And in the end, Nathan’s fine. But done with Slamball, as Jamie asked.

By the way, how cute was it that Jamie cheated his classmates to buy his dad a trophy? Honestly, I thought he was going to make one (even cuter), but this works, too.

Throughout all of this was Lucas’ internal struggle for answers over Keith’s death. This really gave us a glimpse of the Lucas we knew in high school–always introspective. I think Dan gave him a good answer without actually giving him an answer: that Keith was the hero and that every story has a villian. Honestly, my curiosity really wants to know how he wrote it. Will we get to see it eventually? I hope so.

Anyway, decent episode, and I’m definitely wondering where the Julian storyline will go. I’m also wanting to know where Peyton and Brooke’s careers are going. We’re getting glimpses–a phone call here, a sketch there–but nothing solid. Looks like we might find out soon? Maybe by the end of the season? Here’s hoping.

Recap Reviews: Sister, Sister – “I Had a Dream”

SISTER, SISTER: 5.18 “I Had a Dream”

So I don’t know how often I’m really going to write Recap Reviews about specific episodes, but I felt that this one should really stand out.

I happened to catch today’s rerun of Sister, Sister on ABC Family. Now, I don’t know if it was a coincidence or whether it was planned, but the episode surrounded the many great things that happened in African American history. On the dawn of having a new African American President-Elect, I think it’s great to have these reminders.

Basically, it’s senior year, and Tia and Tamara are getting ready to go to college. Tamara is afraid to enter the real world and decides she’ll stay in high school. How? She’s decided that she’ll flunk the final for her black history class. While explaining her reasons, her friends explain to her that even those icons in history had fears and were human–they weren’t just the greats their entire lives.

In response to this, Tamera has a dream–literally. She meets many of the historical figures in this dream including Harriet Tubman, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, Bessie Coleman, Jackie Robinson, Madame CJ Walker, and Martin Luther King Jr. Of course, in each one, they’re scared. They don’t want to break out of the norm, and they dont’ like that people are against them.

What happens? Tamera talks to them and convinces them that they’ll make great strides in the future. She actually tells them what they’ll do and convince them to do it. Did you know that behind all the heroes was Tamera Mowry? Oh yeah.

Ok, I mock, but it was actually a refreshing episode. It was a little new and definitely a nice reminder today. If you can find the ep, I’d suggest watching it. I think it might be on again tomorrow at 7 am.

In the end, a young girl convinces Tamera to pass her final and go to school, also for great things to happen. Now, that was a little weird and Star Trekky, but eh, they  had to get Tamera to college somehow, right?

Oh, and one more thing: There was a fantastic black history rap that I wish I could find on YouTube. It was funny and correct. I wonder if people could teach it nowadays…

Anyway, hurray for making strides in today’s world with the new President-Elect Barack Obama. If anything, I think last night showed us some definite changes for the world–whether it be in the Oval Office or otherwise.
